ADAPPT,
Inc. is a division of CiviGenics, a correctional services firm
with
expertise in secure custody operations and is the foremost provider of
offender programming to reduce criminal recidivism in the United States. CiviGenics core conviction is that for corrections to be truly cost
effective, it must do more than isolate offenders from society. Sooner or
later almost all of those currently incarcerated will return to society
and – without new skills and new attitudes – they will pose a very real
threat for criminal activity once again. For this reason, CiviGenics’
employees are trained to both protect the public and rehabilitate
offenders.
ADAPPT, Inc. is a
for-profit division of CiviGenics that is affiliated with the Pennsylvania
Department of Corrections and the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and
Parole. ADAPPT administers chemical dependency and treatment programs for
men and women who are under sentence and who have been classified to
minimum release custody. A cluster of residential buildings in downtown
Reading function as a large scale Therapeutic Community (TC). The TC has
46 beds, and is licensed as an inpatient non-hospital drug and alcohol
unit, that includes a Group Home facility, with the capacity to house 107
clients. The chemical dependency program involves both group and
individual therapy that is reality based, concentrating on preparing each
client to cope drug and alcohol free upon reentry to independent living.
Group Home residency is designed to assist clients in acquiring basic
living skills to cope in an ever-changing society.
Counselors with ADAPPT
have a maximum caseload of eight clients, and a staff-client ratio of 1:2
that has resulted in an effective intensive intervention program.
